Why I Started Three Roots Creative

For more than 15 years, I've had the opportunity to work with nonprofits, donors, boards, businesses, community leaders, and some really great people who care about making their communities better.

And one thing I've learned is that there is never a shortage of good ideas.

The challenge is finding the time, people, and resources to actually make those ideas happen.

I've seen organizations with a great project but no one who has time to research and write the grant. I've seen events that need someone to pull all the pieces together. I've worked with organizations that have an important story to tell but aren't quite sure how to tell it. And I've been part of plenty of conversations that start with, "Wouldn't it be great if we could..."

Those are the conversations I love.

Because my brain immediately goes to: Okay, how do we make that happen?

Throughout my career, I've written grants, raised money, built relationships with donors, planned events, developed marketing campaigns, worked with boards, managed projects, built partnerships, and solved more than a few problems along the way.

I've worn a lot of hats, and I've learned that I actually like wearing a lot of hats.

That's a big part of why I started Three Roots Creative.

Why Three Roots?

The name itself is very personal to me.

The Three represents my three daughters. They are a huge part of who I am, why I work as hard as I do, and why taking the chance to build something of my own means so much to me.

Being their mom has taught me a lot about growth, resilience, patience, figuring things out as you go, and building something today that you hope will matter years from now.

And then there are the Roots.

I've spent most of my career working with organizations and people who care deeply about their communities. Over the years, I've learned that the things that make an organization successful aren't always the things everyone sees.

It's the relationships you've built. The people who believe in what you're doing. The resources you've worked hard to secure. And having a plan for where you want to go.

For me, those roots come down to three things:

Strategy. Resources. Community.

You need a strategy for where you're going. You need the resources to help you get there. And you need people who believe in what you're trying to accomplish.

Those are the roots that allow good ideas to grow.

So Three Roots Creative brings together two things that matter deeply to me: my three girls and my belief that anything meant to grow and last needs strong roots.

So, What Exactly Does Three Roots Do?

The simple answer is:

I help organizations get things done.

Maybe you need someone to find and write a grant.

Maybe you need help figuring out your fundraising strategy.

Maybe you're planning an event and the list of things that need to happen is getting a little overwhelming.

Maybe you need help telling your story, communicating with donors, marketing your organization, organizing a project, or figuring out how to turn a really good idea into something real.

Or maybe you don't know exactly what kind of help you need yet.

That's okay too.

That's where I want Three Roots Creative to fit.

I'm not interested in handing you a complicated plan that sits on a shelf. I'd rather roll up my sleeves, learn about your organization, understand what you're trying to accomplish, and help you move it forward.

A New Business Built on Years of Experience

Three Roots Creative is a new business, but this isn't new work for me.

It's built on more than 15 years of experience, relationships, lessons learned, grants written, money raised, events planned, projects completed, problems solved, and communities I've been fortunate enough to be part of.

I've seen what can happen when good people have the right resources and support behind them.

I've also seen really good ideas get put on the back burner simply because there wasn't enough time or another person available to take them on.

I kept thinking there should be another option.

Three Roots Creative is that option.

You may not need another full-time employee. You may just need someone who can step in, understand what you're trying to accomplish, and help you get there.

And that's the kind of work I love.

So if you've been saying...

"We really need to get this done."

"We should apply for that grant."

"We've been talking about doing this forever."

Or my personal favorite...

"I have this idea..."

I'd love to hear about it.

You don't need a finished plan. You don't need to know exactly which service you need. And you definitely don't need to have everything figured out before you reach out.

Just tell me about your project.

Tell me what you're working on, what you're hoping to accomplish, what's getting in the way, or even just the idea that's been sitting in the back of your mind.

We'll start there and figure out what comes next together.

Because good ideas need strong roots.

Let's grow yours.
